A recreation of the Kamakura "Hachinoki" restaurant will feature the "Kamakura Samurai Celebration Meal (Period Food)," a samurai's special meal, and the singing and dancing of the Shirabyoshi, beloved by samurai. About the event

Minamoto no Yoritomo, who established the shogunate in Kamakura, learned from the corruption of the previous era and promoted samurai government based on the spirit of "simplicity and frugality." Like commoners, samurai ate two meals a day, consisting of brown rice and meat (such as boar, venison, rabbit, and wild fowl).

In contrast, a celebratory meal (hare no zen) is prepared with a variety of dishes, including sashimi of fish, including the three great delicacies of abalone, sea urchin, and clams, and its splendor gave rise to the term "oban buri mai" (generous presentation).

They enjoyed delicious food on various occasions, such as during construction ceremonies to celebrate the completion of a building or during memorial services.
